3. An Interaction between PPIs and Plavix?
In August of 2009, Health Canada announced a potential drug interaction between proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and Plavix (clopidogrel). This was based on a number of published studies that have suggested that clopidogrel is less effective as an antiplatelet agent in the presence of a PPI.   However other studies have found no clinical evidence for this interaction. This session will discuss the evidence for and against of a potential interaction between PPIs and clopidogrel.
