April 9th, 10th and 11th
 Winnipeg Convention Centre

In This Issue:           1. Attention All Candidates for Election to MPhA Council
                                  2. MPhA Council Election – Membership Survey

  1. Attention All Candidates for Election to the MPhA Council - The arrangements are almost finalized for the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists “All Candidates Forum – Election to MPhA Council”.  The Forum is scheduled for Thursday, February 18th, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Samuel Cohen Auditorium, St. Boniface Research Centre at 351 Tache Ave.   All licensed pharmacists are able to participate either through webcast, or in person.
  2.

The Forum will allow each Candidate to address the most significant priorities for the next Council, as identified by MSP members through survey results.  For those licensed pharmacists in attendance and for those participating through webcast there will be an opportunity to ask the candidates questions.

The challenge is for MSP to contact directly all candidates to discuss their participation in the Forum.  MSP’s request for the names of all the candidates has been denied by the current MPhA Council.  To date the following candidates have been identified:

    Jason Pankratz       (District 1)
    Mel Baxter              (District 2)
    Carey Lai                 (District 1)
    Tim Pattern              (District 1)
    Kristine Petrasko   (District 2)

It is estimated there may be upwards of sixteen candidates for election to MPhA Council, and it would be appreciated if each candidate would contact MSP as soon as possible given the Forum will be held in nine days.  As not all pharmacists in Manitoba receive Communication Plus, we ask that if you are aware of a candidate who is not included on the above list that you encourage them to contact MSP at their earliest opportunity.

The Society wants to ensure that everyone understands that although MSP is sponsoring the Forum, all Manitoba pharmacists can participate, and all Candidates are asked to be involved.  MPhA is not affiliated with this new initiative, and Candidates are not required to involve themselves with this event.   However, MSP believes the Forum will provide an excellent opportunity for pharmacists to hear from the candidates before casting their ballots.

To contact the MSP office please call 956-6681 or
    toll free at 1-866-677-7170.
Email is also available at info@msp.mb.ca.

Although MPhA has not yet made a formal announcement, it is believed the deadline for the Registrar to receive ballots is March 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm.  The Forum is being held on February 18, 2010, so that Manitoba pharmacists have the ability to hear from the candidates prior to casting their vote.

  3. There is less than 48 hours to complete the survey below.  The MPhA Council Election is now underway and the MSP Board of Directors want members to determine the key issues facing the incoming Council. An online survey has been developed for this purpose and we encourage members to participate.  This information will be provided to candidates who are participating in the All Candidates Forum, on February 18th.
  4. The survey is very brief, takes only a moment to complete and will provide valuable information going into the election.
