MSP Member Update Vol. 8 No. 48
Nov. 25th, 2009

In This Issue:      1.  Extension of NIHB Provider Registration- ESI Canada

  1. Special Bulletin for NIHB Providers – MSP Members are advised of a recent development with respect to registering with ESI Canada in order to bill directly for services rendered or goods delivered to NIHB clients.  Initially and until this week, Health Canada and ESI indicated that any pharmacy providers not registered by December 1, 2009 would no longer be able to submit NIHB claims to ESI Canada’s electronic claims processing system.  Arrangements have now been made for pharmacy providers not yet registered with ESI Canada by December 1st to submit claims to the electronic claims processing system using the provider number previously issued by First Canadian Health.

The registration period has been extended until March 31, 2010, and will certainly benefit those pharmacy providers who are currently not yet registered with ESI Canada.  However, only registered pharmacy providers will have access to electronic deposits.  Those Manitoba pharmacies that intend to complete and submit the standard contract, should take action at the earliest opportunity.  It is doubtful that any further extensions will be provided.

Please take a moment to review a copy of correspondence to MSP from Health Canada as well as a Special Bulletin which is currently being distributed to pharmacy providers.  These documents include up to date information on the transition process and provides contact information should you have any questions or require documents related to this initiative.
