MSP Member Update Vol. 8 No. 40

In This Issue:      1. MPhA Organizational Capacity Review Report

  1. Members are advised that PricewaterhouseCoopers has now released the Organizational Capacity Review of the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. The report can be viewed at: http://www.msp.mb.ca/files/mpha_capacity_review_report_-_final.pdf.  This is a noteworthy development for at least two reasons.  Firstly, this report provides the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association with a detailed independent review from a well regarded consultant with expertise in organization administration.  The review includes an executive summary and fifteen detailed recommendations.  Members are encouraged to review the executive summary and recommendations if they are unable to read the entire 128 page report.

The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists Government Relations Committee meets tomorrow to review the Organizational Capacity Report and determine what if any actions to take.
The second noteworthy development is that the first of the consultancy process’s four deliverables has been achieved.  This means that all focus and resources can now be directed to the remaining three priorities:

  1. facilitate pharmacist consultations to gain consensus for Bill 41 regulations and distance care pharmacy service provisions;
  2. identify options that are acceptable to both MPhA and MSP for Bill 41 regulations and distance care pharmacy services provisions and,
  3. improve communications with pharmacists on the Bill 41 regulations.

The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists along with the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association are responsible for managing this consultancy process.  The Society has identified the regulation development process as the key issue for Manitoba pharmacists as it will dictate the future of pharmacy practice for many years to come.  The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists will continue to work diligently on the regulation development process and are committed to bring the process to a successful conclusion.
