1. The Agreement for Pharmacy Services in Personal Care Homes which received tentative agreement in December 2006 is expected to be implemented shortly.

The parties to the agreement (the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists, Manitoba Health and the Regional Health Authorities) all need to sign the final document.  Earlier this week, MSP was notified that the agreement has now been signed by all the necessary Regional Health Authorities and would be signed off by Manitoba Health in the coming days.  The contract will then be forwarded to MSP.  It is anticipated that during February the parties will finalize the implementation of the terms of the agreement and that retroactive payments will be made shortly thereafter.

Please be assured that MSP will continue to keep members advised as all notable developments are made.

2. Earlier today, Manitoba Health held a press conference to formally announce the Deductible Instalment Payment Program for Pharmacare.  Manitoba Health will be sending application forms and program guides to Manitoba Pharmacies in the coming days.  The program guide provides a comprehensive outline of the Deductible Instalment Payment Program and will assist patients in completing the application form.

Questions on the program can be directed to the payment program office (945-1733 Winnipeg / 1-888-519-3492 toll free).  Normally the payment office will be open only during business hours, but is open this weekend (9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday/ 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday).

Pharmacy participation with this new program is voluntary and MSP has worked with Manitoba Health over the past year in an effort to ensure the demand on pharmacy staff time is minimized.  As this program is implemented members are encouraged to email MSP at info@msp.mb.ca with comments on their direct experiences.  This info rmation will be carefully reviewed and will assist the Society in our discussions with Manitoba Health.  All emails will of course respect members' privacy.

3. Annual Wage & Benefits Survey - reminder to members – the 33 rd Annual Survey of Income and Benefits was sent out to members in early January.  We would like to thank those of you who have completed and returned the survey and encourage those who haven't to do so at their earliest convenience. The data derived from this survey provides the most reliable reference for negotiating compensation for pharmacists' services.   The deadline to submit completed surveys is March 15 th , 2007. The surveys can be mailed to MSP in the self addressed envelope that was provided or faxed to (204) 956-6686. Please do not send by both mail and fax.

The Award of Merit is bestowed upon an active member of the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists in recognition for active participation and promotion contributing to the benefit of the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists and the Profession of Pharmacy. Information regarding qualifications for the award and nomination forms can be downloaded at http://www.msp.mb.ca/PDF/Nominations_form.pdf .
