In This Issue: Deadline to Respond to the MPhA Discussion Document

The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists (MSP) believes that the May 29, 2007 deadline to respond to the MPhA Discussion Document needs to be extended by 3 months. One week ago MSP wrote to President Pat Trozzo requesting an extension (to view click here), and this past Tuesday wrote Manitoba Health to request their support in achieving a 3 month extension (to view click here). If you support this request, we ask that you take a moment to sign a standard letter and fax it to our office. To download and print a copy of the standard letter click here. Given the May 29th deadline is 12 days away, we ask that you respond today.

The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists has met with other Pharmacy Stakeholders and has been in contact with many members and it is clear that there is virtual consensus that this process is being unduly rushed. The one obvious lesson learned through the struggles associated with the passage of Bill 41 was that Manitoba pharmacists want the opportunity to fully familiarize themselves with potential legislative changes before they are made.

The timeline surrounding Bill 41 was tied to the Legislative Assembly’s schedule and although more time would have been preferred the Society understood the need to proceed in the manner presented. The development of regulations is a completely different process and in the absence of any legitimate reason to move quickly through the consultation process, it would seem prudent to allow pharmacists to hear from pharmacy stakeholders other than MPhA before responding to the Discussion Document.

Your immediate attention to this matter is appreciated.
