2. Crystal Meth

Methamphetamine production and abuse has been a serious problem in the United States for the past several years. It only recently emerged as a similar concern in Canada. British Columbia was the first Province to experience a significant increase in methamphetamine use, but subsequently other Provinces have identified similar problems.

Pharmacies get caught up in this emerging issue as the manufacturers of crystal meth amass the ingredients for production including single source pseudoephedrine products. Pharmacies and other retailers may have noticed that the sale of single source pseudoephedrine products has increased significantly, or possibly an increase in the amount of theft of these products. Officials with the Meth Watch Program advise that this is now occurring in Manitoba.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Manitoba Society of Pharmacists will be providing members with more information on this matter. If you have experienced any problems in your pharmacy, we would appreciate hearing from you
