1. SERDC Pilot Project
For those that may not have been advised directly, the pilot project for administering Non-Insured Health Benefits by the South East Resource Development Corporation (SERDC) was terminated effective January 21, 2004 by the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB).  FNIHB indicates that the primary reason for terminating the pilot was their concerns “regarding the ability of SERDC to provide the full range of benefits to their communities.”

All outstanding invoices for services provided prior to January 21, 2004 are the responsibility of SERDC for payment and should be submitted to them for payment.  However, if any MSP member experience difficulties in receiving payment, please contact the MSP office with details.

2. NIHB Consent Process
As you are aware the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program is in the process of obtaining the consent of registered Indians and recognized Inuit and Innu who access the medically required health care benefits provided under the NIHB Program.  At this time the deadline is March 1, 2004 , after which time NIHB Clients may not be able to access their benefits (Drugs, Dental, Medical Transportation) as they have in the past.

MSP has concerns with the impact that could be experienced in Pharmacies as the most recent data from Health Canada indicates 21% of consents have been obtained based on the total eligible population in Manitoba .  Over the coming weeks MSP will be working with other Provincial Pharmacy Advocacy Organizations across Canada to find solutions to this impending challenge.  Be assured that MSP members will be updated with all significant developments.

The new membership cards arrived today and members should be receiving them next week.
