The Manitoba Society of Pharmacists (MSP) has been advocating on behalf of pharmacists in the province since its inception in 1972. Over this period of time MSP has established itself as the voice of pharmacists in the province of Manitoba. In carrying out this responsibility, MSP has effectively represented the economic and professional interests of Manitoba Pharmacies and recognizes the importance of forging an enhanced relationship with our corporate partners.
We are currently entering a critical time in the history of the profession. We are committed to the successful development of the Bill 41 Regulations and have dedicated significant time and effort to this defining moment. The establishment of the Government Relations Committee to address Bill 41 and the regulations development process has been a key initiative; however this initiative requires financial support.
Economics issues will also be front and centre in upcoming months as negotiations will commence for a new Personal Care Home Agreement with the provincial government. Discussions regarding the development of a Pharmacy Standard Contract will also start soon.
Negotiations to renew the Non-Insured Health Benefits Contract with the Federal Government are expected to begin shortly. You may be aware that MSP has taken a lead role in assisting pharmacies with NIHB audits over the last six years and now has a proven record of reducing the amount of inappropriate recoveries.
MSP has also been involved in the CPhA Blueprint for Pharmacy to the extent that budget constraints and continuous provincial demands allow. MSP currently has representation on the Pharmacy Legislation, Regulation and Liability Committee.
The Corporate Membership Program will ensure that MSP is able to maximize efforts to advocate for the economic interests of pharmacies. Building this relationship with our corporate stakeholders is imperative to the ongoing work of the Society and we encourage you to support this new and much needed initiative.
MSP negotiates with third parties on fees and reimbursement issues including the federal and provincial governments. MSP’s economic achievements include ratified agreements with both Health Canada (NIHB) and Manitoba Health.
MSP ensures pharmacy interests are represented with decision makers in government and with other key stakeholders through the work of our volunteer committees (Economics, Government Relations, Pharmacare and Professional Relations Committees).
MSP resolves disputes between pharmacies and third parties over fees and interpretation of provider agreements. Those pharmacies who have needed our support are well aware of the importance and benefit of having a knowledgeable and forceful advocate working on their behalf.
